This month, Apple had a big launch event where they showed off four new iPhones, three new smartwatches, and their best pair of wireless earbuds. The much-rumored iPad Pro refresh didn’t happen, and neither did any new Macs, but it looks like Apple has more new hardware to show us this year. In fact, it looks like the company is getting ready to release a lot of machines with M2 series silicon.
Bloomberg says that Apple will likely release at least four new Macs, the next-generation iPad Pro, and an updated Apple TV with an A14 chip and more RAM. It’s interesting that these devices might not be shown off at a fancy pre-recorded event like the iPhone launch party a few weeks ago.
Instead, it is thought that Apple will just send out press releases and update its website with information about the new products. A small group of journalists might get a briefing behind closed doors, but not much else is known about Apple’s rumoured plans at this point. There have been rumours in the past that Apple might show off new Mac hardware at some point in October.
What do the Mac and iPad have to offer?
Starting with the computers, it is said that the M1-powered Mac mini will get a replacement that will come in two different versions. Reports say that the entry-level model will have the same M2 chip as the 2022 MacBook Air. A higher-end model with the unannounced M2 Pro chip is also said to be in the works.
It is also said that Apple will release new versions of its 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro laptops. It is said that these two machines will come in M2 Pro and M2 Max versions. Most likely, they will look the same as the ones that came before them, but not much is known about any other possible changes.
The next-generation iPad Pro tablets are still expected to come out in 2023, but Gurman thinks they’ll be shown off before the end of this year. The current iPad Pro with the M1 chip has been on the market for almost 18 months, so it seems like it’s about time for an update. There are rumours that Apple’s best tablets will be able to charge wirelessly this year.
A design with a glass back has been talked about for a while, but we haven’t heard anything concrete yet. The M2 chip will run things inside the car, and a new 4-pin connector could be added to connect to other parts. Unfortunately, Apple might again limit the mini-LED display to the 12.9-inch model, while the 11-inch model will only have an LCD panel with a 120Hz refresh rate.
