Producer Reports “Smooth Progress” in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Development

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is the second game in a planned trilogy of games called Final Fantasy VII Remake. Producer Yoshinori Kitase gave a short but welcome update on the game’s progress. We have not heard anything about the game since it was announced last June, but a release date could be coming soon.

Kitase answered the question of how Rebirth is coming along in a tweet by saying, “Development is progressing smoothly and according to plan. We are currently working on nailing down a release date for the game.”

Even though it is not much, Kitase’s claim that things are going well makes the update exciting. Summer Game Fest is coming up, and Square Enix is one of the confirmed partners for the event, so there is a small chance Rebirth will be there.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is set to come out for PlayStation 5 this winter. It picks up after the events of Final Fantasy VII Remake and its story expansion, Intermission. Even though it follows Cloud and the others after they leave Midgar, the cinematic reveal trailer does not tell us much about what to expect (other than Cloud and Sephiroth taking a lot of walks together), so we hope to see more of the project soon.
