We are, of course, going to add MultiVersus, but we also have an underrated fighting game that is great for beginners and a fun PVP mech game. This is a nice little update for people who want to game but don’t have a lot of money.

Fantasy Strike

Fantasy Strike

If you’ve ever wanted to learn how to play fighting games but were scared off by the motion controls, Fantasy Strike is the right game for you. It has all the good parts of fighting games that make them so interesting. There are footsies, spaces, and zones here. This game is a real fight. But it also takes away that well-known barrier to entry. No more Hadouken motions. Now, you only have to press one button to do any special move.

Even if you decide to move on to more well-known games in the same genre, like Street Fighter or King of Fighters, you will be able to use a lot of what you have learned here. Don’t worry about how the money works in the game. You get every character and the “versus” mode for playing online. You can buy skins or pay to play the single-player content. All done. Things that make sense!

MultiVersus

MultiVersus

Most people probably thought that the failure of Playstation All-Stars meant that there would never be a good game that could challenge Smash Bros. When MultiVersus was first announced, WB’s entry into the genre didn’t do much to change people’s minds. Nevertheless, here we are. The game has come out, and guess what? It’s wonderful!

MultiVersus is a platform fighter with a focus on teamwork and a push for a more skirmish-style of fighting. The shield for everyone? Gone. So, either you avoid getting hit, or you get hit. And it’s a lot of fun. The characters all feel very different from each other, and the world is amazing, which is something Smash can’t say. Not only is the game fun, but it’s also easy to get new characters. Even though the skins are expensive, you can get everything you need to play the game for free. MultiVersus rocks!

Splitgate

Splitgate
Splitgate

Splitgate is a first-person shooter made by 1047 Games. It was first released in 2019 through early access. But after a big change to how it plays, the Xbox One and PS4 versions came out in 2021, and versions for current-gen consoles are expected to come out sometime in 2022.

The free-to-play game takes ideas from other popular sci-fi shooters, most notably the Portal series. For example, the game’s “wormholes,” which let you move quickly from one part of the map to another, come from those games. This means that the game is played differently than most first-person shooters.

Smite

Even though there are a lot of free-to-play MOBAs for the PC, you can’t say the same about consoles or the PS4. Fans of the genre will notice this right away in a game like Smite.
It came out on the PS4 in 2016 and was made by Hi-Rez Studios. In it, you play as a god or other mythological figure, and you have to fight against other teams and their followers. The game is popular in eSports, and at the Golden Joysticks in 2017, it was even nominated for eSports Game of the Year.

After the first Destiny game did well, the team at Bungie didn’t wait long before making a second one. Destiny 2 was first released in 2017 as a pay-to-play game. In 2019, it became free-to-play, so even more people could play it.

The game’s community continues to grow thanks to regular updates. The Witch Queen expansion is set to come out on February 22, 2022.

PUBG: Battlegrounds

PUBG: Battlegrounds

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, also known as PUBG, is what made the battle royale genre what it is today. The game had taken the online multiplayer world by storm with its 100-player matches, which had never been seen before, and its focus on survival, which had never been done before.

A free-to-play mobile version has been out since 2018, but the main game didn’t become free-to-play until January 12, 2022. This was likely done to compete with the many other free-to-play games on the market today.

Genshin Impact

The Chinese company miHoYo made Genshin Impact, an action RPG that you can play for free. It looks a lot like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, with its cel-shaded art style and huge open world.

But what many people at first thought was just a copy of that other game has quickly grown to become one of the most popular live service games out there, making more than $2 billion in its first year.

Rogue Company

When Rogue Company came out last year, it added to the chaos of the already busy hero shooter genre. The game was made by First Watch Games and put out by Hi-Rez Studios. It has four-player teams fighting on different maps and in different game modes.

It lets you play with people on other consoles or PCs, so you can play with your friends.

If you’ve never played a Hitman game before, you can try out a mission from Hitman 2 for free on PS4. The games are great, and they have a lot of depth and detail. You really get to know what it’s like to be an assassin or a superspy.

In the free mission for Hitman 2, you can play as Agent 47, who is looking for a mysterious shadow client in New Zealand. Even though you can only do one mission at first, you can try to master it and complete more than 40 different challenges that were created by improvising and trying things out.

Neverwinter

If you like games like Runescape and World of Warcraft, you should check out Neverwinter. It’s one of the easiest MMORPGs to get started with, but it still has a lot of free content.
Depending on how much time you spend playing, you might eventually hit a paywall, but you don’t have to. You’ll just have to be patient when it comes to waiting and leveling up. If you know Dungeons and Dragons, you might recognize the name since the game is based on the made-up city of Forgotten Realms from D&D.

Z1 Battle Royale

Z1 Battle Royale is a free battle royale game where you can play against people from all over the world. It’s a revamped version of the original game for the PS4. It’s so popular that when it first came out, more than a million people tried to use it at once, which caused the servers to crash.

As with most free games, there are small purchases you can make, but they are easy to avoid. In terms of how it’s played, it’s a bit like Fortnite. It’s simple to learn how to play, but hard to get good at.

Fortnite: Battle Royale

Whether you like it or not, you can’t deny that Epic’s Fortnite Battle Royale is a huge hit. What started out as a “horde mode” game now has a “battle royale” mode, which quickly made it the most popular free-to-play game of all time. In just one year, the game brought in more than $2.4 billion.

In Fortnite, 100 players land on a large, open map with guns, vehicles, and buildings that they can use to destroy or build. The point? Be the last player, or squad, left alive as the map around you slowly shrinks. Fortnite Battle Royale is not only free, but it can also be played on pretty much all of the newest consoles, phones, and computers.

DC Universe Online is a dream come true for anyone who loves comic books. In it, players can make their own original hero or villain and fight with or against people like Batman, Superman, and others. You can team up with your friends in this MMO-style adventure to take on dungeons, raids, and bosses that feature many of DC’s most famous characters.

Even after you reach the highest level, there is a lot to do that will keep you playing for hours. This is one of the older games on the list. It came out on the PS3 in 2011 and then moved to the PS4 in 2013. Since then, however, it has kept getting new content, items, and characters. This is something that every DC fan needs to have.

If you like hero-based shooters like Overwatch, Hi-Rez Studios’ Paladins might be the perfect free game for you. This shooter gives you a lot of options. You can choose from more than 35 heroes, each of whom has a different loadout and set of skills. In Paladins, you can fight as a giant tree or use a snake’s head as a venom launcher. Each hero can also be changed in a crazy number of ways.

Before every match, you can use special cards to improve your skills. In the same way, you can buy items to help you in battle, just like in many MOBA-style games. This game is a lot of fun because it is crazy and full of action.

Let It Die

Let It Die

Since the Souls games were so popular, it was only natural that other games would try to copy them. Let It Die takes a lot from games that came before it that were much more popular, but it stands out with its crazy characters, settings, and weapons. Your character has to fight his or her way to the top of the “Tower of Barbs,” which has never been done before.

Along the way, you’ll meet some strange NPCs and find some really funny weapons, like buzzsaw knuckles, a firework launcher, or a flame wand. It’s all as strange as it sounds, and it’s a lot of fun to watch all the flashy chaos. Just know that you will die a lot.

The Awesome Adventures Of Captain Spirit

The Awesome Adventures Of Captain Spirit
The Awesome Adventures Of Captain Spirit

Life is Strange is one of the few games that does story telling so well. This graphic adventure game is more like an interactive movie because it lets players make choices, solve puzzles, and see how their choices play out in a movie-like way. As a prequel to Life is Strange 2, The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit is a short adventure that bridges the gap between the two games.

You play as Chris Eriksen, a young boy who has to deal with a terrible loss by making himself into a superhero. During the campaign, which lasts about two hours, you will follow his story and make choices that will change his path. This game is great for people who just want to relax and enjoy a great story, not learn a lot about how to play.

Brawlhalla

A platformer battle arena is the type of game that Brawlhalla is. Most people, though, will just compare it right away to the popular Super Smash Brothers games. You and your friends will fight over a 2D map, trying to push each other off the edge by kicking, punching, chopping, and shooting.

Each legend has a different set of skills and a slightly different way of playing. There are many different game modes to try out, and you can unlock more than 40 legends. Since you can fight with up to eight people, this is a great game to bring to parties.

18

Dauntless

Dauntless
Dauntless

Even though Dauntless hasn’t come out yet when this was written, it’s already getting a lot of attention. This free-to-play game is an action-adventure game in the style of Monster Hunter. It is currently in open beta. After making your character, you are thrown into the Shattered Isles with nothing but a sword and your wits. The goal is to kill the huge monsters that roam the world and use their parts to make weapons and armour.
It follows a familiar pattern, but Dauntless feels different than other games in this genre because of its cartoony style, fast combat, and fluid movement. The best part is that you can play it together with your friends on both PC and Xbox One.

19

Apex Legends

Apex Legends

When Apex Legends came out from the company Respawn, many gamers were disappointed that it wasn’t a new Titanfall. But those problems went away as soon as players entered the world of King’s Canyon in this first-person battle royale.

Apex is like a mix between a hero shooter and a battle royale. Sixty people fight for control of a shrinking map in three-person teams made up of different combinations of the nine heroes. Apex really stands out because of its tight controls, smooth movement, and unique abilities for each character. Every part of the game is so much fun that it’s hard to stop playing. It also has a ping system that makes it easy for squads to talk to each other without using mics.

Warframe

If you like games like Destiny that are like looter-shooters, then you should check out Warframe. This entry is a third-person sci-fi action game that puts a lot of emphasis on working together. You play as a group of aliens called Tenno. Each player controls a Warframe, which looks like a mech suit worn by a ninja.

Explore an open world on your hoverboard while getting loot, upgrading your gear, and learning new skills. You and your friends can also work together in Warframe to take on some of the game’s tougher dungeons and bosses. Here, you can get hundreds of hours of content for free.
